A charcoal fire was burning. Fish were already on it. Bread was ready. He asked them to bring some of their catch — not because He needed it, but because participation matters to Him. The provision preceded the labor. This is the pastoral edge worth sitting with: we often assume that God waits to act until we have performed sufficiently. But here, the fire was already lit before the boat reached the beach. Jesus is not a contractor waiting on your materials. He is a host who prepares before guests arrive. Your work is real and worth doing — but it does not initiate His care. Notice today where something good was waiting for you before you thought to ask for it.\n\n— Narrow Highway devotional, 2026-06-10", "source": {"label": "Narrow Highway devotional — 2026-06-10", "url": "", "ref": "John 21:12", "authority_tier": "operator"}, "shelf": "codex", "box": "devotionals", "bands": ["devotional", "witness", "the word", "John 21:12"], "connections": [], "author": "operator", "created_at": "2026-07-10T21:00:05.284658+00:00", "updated_at": "2026-07-10T21:00:05.284658+00:00", "visibility": "public", "lifecycle_stage": "public", "volatility": "permanent", "surface": "witness", "metrics": {"paperclips_count": 0, "helpful_count": 0, "not_helpful_count": 0, "cite_count": 0, "walks_through_count": 0, "flagged_count": 0}, "source_hash": "165c378cc03c87a9ea6470035598d3a0f8c73205049c66d4cced875a20ec6bdf"}
