Chronic disease as nested control-system failure — a hardened, falsifiable framework

Matt's public-domain framework: chronic disease is not one broken part but a failure somewhere in a NESTED CONTROL SYSTEM — five layers, each regulating the one below: (1) Cellular stress response → (2) Metabolic control → (3) Immune regulation → (4) Tissue remodeling → (5) Systemic/neuro-endocrine integration. The sharp, clinically-real insight at its core: the SAME phenotype can enter from DIFFERENT layers, and each entry demands a different intervention. Hyperglycemia is the worked example — Type 1 is an immune-layer failure (L3), Type 2 a metabolic-layer failure (L2), MODY a cellular-layer failure (L1), Type 3c a tissue-layer failure (L4). One symptom, four ladders. That heterogeneity is not fringe: diabetes subtypes and HFpEF-vs-HFrEF are the same lesson in the literature. This RESONATES with genetic heterogeneity (many genotypes, one phenotype) and with the cohesion law (a body held by a NETWORK of nested bonds, failing at a threshold). This framework was RED-TEAMED before it was mapped — tested the way the engine tests everyone's claims, no favoritism. What survives is the testable core: WITHIN one person, does a layer-specific intervention move that layer's marker more than a matched generic one? That is the whole wager, and it is runnable.
