The Difference One Direction Makes
devotionals
"Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." The disciples had fished all night and caught nothing. Then a figure on the shore called out a single, quiet instruction: try the other side. There was nothing visibly different about that water. Same lake, same boat, same nets, same tired arms. What changed was the source of the direction. Jesus did not explain the physics of where the fish had gathered. He simply said where to cast. Obedience to that word — without a full explanation — preceded the catch so large they could not haul it in alone. This is a pattern worth sitting with. We often exhaust our own strategies before we pause to ask whether we are casting in the direction God is pointing. The disciples' failure was not laziness; it was self-sufficiency. Their breakthrough was not skill; it was attentiveness to a word from outside themselves. Precision in obedience matters more than energy in effort. — Narrow Highway devotional, 2026-05-28
