The Same Water, A Different Cast

"Cast the net on the right side of the ship, and ye shall find." The disciples had fished all night and caught nothing. The water was the same water. The boat was the same boat. Their hands were the same tired hands. Then a voice from the shore gave one specific instruction — not encouragement, not a explanation, just a direction — and the net filled beyond their strength to haul it in. What changed was not their effort or their equipment. What changed was their orientation toward the one who could see what they could not. We often exhaust ourselves working in the right general area, fishing diligently in waters that should hold something. The devotional point is narrow: obedience to a specific word can accomplish what sustained personal effort cannot. Jesus does not always explain why the right side is better. He asks whether we will move the net. The catch follows the trust, not the other way around. — Narrow Highway devotional, 2026-06-02
