The Source Is Already Inside

Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Jesus does not tell the woman at the well to find a better cistern or to draw more carefully. He tells her the supply will move inside her. That is a startling claim. Most of us live as though spiritual nourishment must be imported daily — earned through enough effort, secured through enough discipline. But Jesus describes something structural: a spring, not a ration. A spring does not wait for you to prime it. It rises on its own. The image matters because it reframes the question. The question is not "how do I get more?" It is "do I believe what is already in me is real?" Faith, here, is not a feeling. It is a willingness to stop treating the interior life as empty until proven otherwise. The spring Jesus plants does not require your anxiety to keep it going. It requires your trust. — Narrow Highway devotional, 2026-06-20
