Jephthahs Rash Vow
Outcast son who becomes a mighty warrior; before battle vows whatever first comes out of the doors of his house if victorious; daughter comes out to meet him with timbrels; tears his clothes but holds to the vow. Failure mode: Bargaining with God in language one would not accept back; rigid keeping of an unrighteous oath. Restoration path: Numbers 30 and Leviticus 27 both gave him a way out; he chose rigid pride over correction. Markers: mighty in battle, foolish at the threshold; vow with no thought to what might come; first to come out is the beloved; tears clothes but does not seek the way out; performs the rash oath
