Between the Shortest and the Longest: Christ the Cornerstone Main Text: Psalm 118:21–23 NKJV Introduction Scripture itself bears witness to Christ not only in content but in arrangement. Between the shortest chapter (Psalm 117) and the longest (Psalm 119), lies Psalm 118. At the heart of the Bible stands Jesus — the rejected cornerstone who becomes the foundation. I. Jesus in the Center of Scripture Psalm 117: call for all nations to praise the LORD. Psalm 118: Christ the Messiah, the rejected stone. Psalm 119: obedience to God’s Word. Symbolism: smallest to largest, but Christ stands in the middle as the focus. II. The Rejected Stone Becomes the Cornerstone Builders dismissed Him, but God exalted Him. Fulfillment in Christ’s death and resurrection. Application: Make Jesus the cornerstone of your family, work, and decisions. III. The Marvel of God’s Work “This was the LORD’s doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.” Redemption was not human design but divine plan. Application: Worship God for the marvel of His salvation, not your own works. Conclusion All of Scripture converges on Christ. He must be the center of our lives as He is the center of God’s Word. Call to Response: Is Jesus your cornerstone — or just another stone in your structure?
