Heidelberg Q37
Source: Heidelberg Catechism (1563) (Q37 · Lord's Day 15) · catechism
What dost thou understand by the words, He suffered?
That during the whole time of his life on earth, but especially at the end thereof, he sustained, in body and soul, the wrath of God against the sin of the whole human race; that so by his passion, as the only atoning sacrifice, he might redeem our body and soul from everlasting damnation, and obtain for us the grace of God, righteousness, and eternal life.
